Down Syndrome Woman Wins Lotto, Saves Pro Wrestler in New Book by Shannon Giglio
"Short Bus Hero," fourth novel by Shannon Giglio, hits the market on December 16, 2014.
Savannah, GA, November 15, 2014 --(PR.com)-- In recent months, reports of professional wrestlers showing kindness and support to fans with Down syndrome have appeared in the news, from ‘HHH’ to Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. In her new novel, "Short Bus Hero," author Shannon Giglio turns the tables and paints a heart-rending portrait of a young woman who wants nothing more than to help her fallen hero get back into the ring after his organization lets him go.
“I was inspired by my sister-in-law to write this book. She is the most enthusiastic wrestling fan that I’ve ever met in my life,” says Giglio. “I never knew anyone with Down syndrome before I met her, and she changed the way I look at the world. I have the greatest admiration for her, and for her wonderful mother.”
When a lottery ticket she’s given for Christmas proves to be a big winner, twenty-three-year-old Ally Forman defies her mother and insists on giving her winnings to the down-and-out Stryker Nash. Ally’s mom, Lois, worried about her own mortality following a friend’s brush with death, wants Ally to be sensible and to start a group home for herself and her similarly-abled friends. Life happens, laughter and tears, and through it all, Ally single-handedly restores one jaded angel’s faith in humanity.
“Short Bus Hero has it all: Down syndrome, hoarding, suicide attempts, heart attacks, betrayal, redemption, angels, winning lottery numbers, and big time professional wrestling. A dark, sweet, and poignant tale about what happens when you follow your dreams,” says S. G. Browne, author of Breathers: A Zombie’s Lament, Big Egos, Fated, and the forthcoming Less Than Hero (March 17, 2015, Gallery Books).
Giglio, originally from Milwaukee, WI, graduated from Drexel University and Emerson College before going to work for Dick Clark, CBS, and Ridley Scott. She lives in Savannah, GA, with her husband, author Peter Giglio, and her two daughters. She is currently finishing her fourth and fifth novels. Giglio maintains a blog at http://shannongiglio.wordpress.com. Short Bus Hero is set for release on December 16, 2014, by Nightscape Press (trade paperback and eBook). It is available for pre-order as a Kindle eBook at Amazon.com.
