Royal Oaks Homes Serves as Lead Builder for Operation: Coming Home Hero Home IX
North Carolina Homebuilder to Donate Sixth Custom-Built Home to Disabled Combat Veteran Through Local Nonprofit.
Raleigh, NC, November 21, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Royal Oaks Homes, LLC, an award-winning residential new homebuilder, has announced it will serve as the lead builder for Operation: Coming Home’s ninth Hero Home. This marks the sixth home that the company has provided for Operation: Coming Home, a nonprofit organization providing custom-built homes to disabled combat veterans. Royal Oaks Homes will construct a custom-built home for U.S. Marine Cpl. Ryan Wightman, a Purple Heart recipient. Partners on the build include the Triangle Veterans Association, Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County (HBA) and other local project supporters.
Cpl. Wightman was deployed to Helmand Province in Afghanistan, and on May 26, 2012 was injured by an improvised explosive device (IED), while helping a fallen Marine. He was transferred to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center where he now resides. On Sept. 3, 2014, after two years of limb salvage and multiple surgeries, his left leg was amputated below the knee. The ninth Hero Home will be built specifically to accommodate and meet Cpl. Wightmans physical needs as he continues to recover from his injuries.
A record crowd attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the ninth Hero Home, held on Nov. 13 in Royal Oaks’ Parker Pointe community in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina. On hand for the celebration were Cpl. Wightman and family members, including his wife, Melissa; U.S. Army General Cornell Wilson, military advisor to Gov. Pat McCrory; Phil Matthews, chair of the Wake County Board of Commissioners; John Byrne, Fuquay-Varina mayor; the USO of North Carolina; representatives from the Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County (HBA) and members of the U.S. Veterans Corps. The ceremony included addresses by Tim Minton, president of the Operation: Coming Home Foundation and executive vice president of the HBA, and U.S. Marine Capt. Michael Steadman.
