Belews Creek, NC, November 24, 2014 --(PR.com)-- The Atlantis Project, a North Carolina based organization providing hospital internships in Europe for health students, joined the Forum on Education Abroad this month, aligning with hundreds of member institutions advocating for standards and best practices for international student experiences.
The Forum on Education Abroad is an institutional membership association comprised of members from institutions of higher learning, consortia, agencies, and organizations committed to improving education abroad. Members agree to advocate for standards of good practice and promote high-quality programming. Joao Toste, Founder and Director of the Atlantis Project, commented on the membership, saying, “We are very proud to be a part of the Forum on Education Abroad community. As a rapidly growing organization we aim to learn from member institutions and contribute our knowledge to important discussions on short-term health experiences for undergraduate students.”
Atlantis Project participants, known as Fellows, spend approximately 25 hours each week shadowing doctors in public hospitals on Spanish and Portuguese islands. In addition, Fellows improve language skills, explore local culture, and take part in volunteer opportunities. As part of the AP’s continual commitment to best practices, the hospital portion of their internships is observation only, following the Association of American Medical Colleges guidelines for premedical students abroad.
The Atlantis Project (AP) provides high quality short-term internships for those interested in health fields, positively impacting both students’ professional paths as well as local host communities. Atlantis Fellows gain practical insight into the field of health and a meaningful perspective of healthcare as a call to service. Since 2008 the Atlantis Project has sent students on its European hospital internship programs in the Canary and Azores Islands. Learn more at www.atlantis-project.org.
