Clarence A. Jones Scholarship Foundation Donates "Box of Hope" Thankgiving Turkey to Central Virginia Residents

Clarence A. Jones Foundation (“Foundation”) in collaboration with IX IOTA Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. built fifty Boxes of Hope filled with a turkey and non-perishable can and packaged foods in an effort to provide families with a nutritious holiday meal. Boxes of Hope will be distributed to families in the City of Charlottesville, City of Waynesboro, and Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, and Louisa counties.

Charlottesville, VA, November 24, 2014 --(PR.com)-- According the Daily Progress article on November 23, 2014, “The changing face of hunger” the number of families needing assistance this Thanksgiving has increased from last year in the Central Virginia area, which is putting a tremendous pressure on area food banks to feed area residents. Coupled with the dramatic drop in donations to food banks, many families could go hungry this holiday season.

With that in mind, the Clarence A.

Fitzgerald Barnes of Louisa and president of the Foundation stated “All year long our hearts go out to families who are homeless, in need or merely trying to make ends meet. But those feelings are always heightened during the holiday season, which is why the Foundation took an active role in feeding families this Thanksgiving.”

“Fortunately, many more Central Virginia families will now be able to have a healthy, happy Thanksgiving holiday,” said Darius Parker of Charlottesville and Basileus of IX IOTA Chapter.

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. was founded on November 17, 1911, at Howard University, Washington, D.C. From its inception the fraternity has been an organization dedicated to scholarship, friendship and humanitarian efforts. The outreach and concern continues to manifest in XI IOTA Chapter’s current involvement as they celebrate 60 years of community service.
