Uniformed Public Service Students Visit Chirk Fire Station

Oswestry, United Kingdom, November 30, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Level 2 Uniformed Public Service students from Walford and North Shropshire College (WNSC) recently paid a visit to Chirk Fire Station; it was a very rare occurrence to have the opportunity to visit a retained fire station. The visit was organised by Uniformed Public service student and Volunteer Fire Service Cadet, Chris Catt.

The students were met by Paul McNulty, a Retained Firefighter, who took the students on a guided tour of the station, the students were also able to have a close look at a Fire Appliance (Fire engine or pump) and the equipment it carries. The group learned about the roles and responsibilities of the Fire and Rescue Service, and the roles of Wholetime (full-time) Firefighters, Retained (part-time) Firefighters and support staff such as Community Fire Safety Officers and Control Operators.

Steve Hunter, Uniformed Public Services Lecturer, commented "It is very rare to have the opportunity to visit a retained fire station and Chris has to be commended for organising the visit."
