Chemistry Student Wins Competition

Oswestry, United Kingdom, December 07, 2014 --(PR.com)-- A student at Walford and North Shropshire College (WNSC) has recently won a competition run by ChemNet, part of the Royal Society of Chemistry; the competition was to write an article about a discovery or invention that had affected your life.

The winning article was submitted by Vickie O’Sullivan, an A Level Chemistry student at the Oswestry Campus of WNSC. Vickie wrote an article about the discovery of insulin, because she is a diabetic, insulin has a huge impact on her life.

The winning article was selected on 1st December 2014, with a fantastic prize of tickets to see the Royal Institution’s Christmas Lecture in Mayfair, London.

Vickie, on winning the competition, commented ‘I’m really excited to go to London to see the Christmas Lectures, I didn’t expect to win. It was a great competition to enter as I was able to write about something that means a lot to me, if insulin hadn’t of been invented, who knows what my life would be like.’

Sara Shelston, Head of A Level’s at WNSC, said "The College is ecstatic that one of our learners has won this competition based on her knowledge of Chemistry and writing skills." Lucy Jeffs, A Level Chemistry Course Leader, added "I am really proud and happy to be lecturing a student who has engaged in extracurricular chemistry activities, I’m also excited to hear about the Christmas Lectures that she is going to see."
