First OEL Light Novel by U.S. Company Published
Danville, VA, December 07, 2014 --(PR.com)-- A new book made history recently as the first original English-language light novel published by an American company.
“We are proud to present Reid Kemper’s light novel, 'Vecto: Vengeance', to the public and are optimistic that it will gain traction in its niche market,” said Vic’s Lab, LLC, founder Chad “Vic” Adams. “Although the light novel market is slow to take hold in America, we hope that this popular Japanese style of writing will expand."
Light novels are short novels or novellas that are easy to read, can be read in one sitting, and tend to focus on dialogue and action. They are popular in Japan and often are made into manga and anime shows. Their short form makes them ideal for adapting into movies.
“If you like science fiction books, anime, and superhero movies, you should check it out,” Kemper said of his book. “I blended things I enjoy and made the story easy to read and action-packed. Sure, there are scenes that seem like they came straight from an anime show, but you won’t find confusing Japanese words like you do in most light novels. Instead, I used names and characters that sound like they came from a comic book."
"Vecto: Vengeance" was launched as an ebook on Nov. 18 and was released in print on Nov. 26. Paul Witcover was the editor for the book. He has worked with Del Rey, Tor, Tokyopop, and DC Comics and has written a Nebula-nominated novel.
"Vecto: Vengeance" is voluntarily rated 13+ for violence and has been described as a fast-paced, character-driven book packed with over-the-top action. The story is about a robot with emotions named Vecto who, after a friend dies, goes on a revengeful search for a longtime nemesis. He meets up with a sword-wielding teenage thief, sniper/assassin, martial arts master/farmer and others along the way.
The chapters are written as if they are TV episodes. Each chapter can be read in the time it takes to watch an episode, and the whole book can be read in the time it takes to watch a three-hour movie.
"Vecto: Vengeance," the first book of a planned trilogy, is available via Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple, and other online retailers. The ebook edition retails for $3.99 while the print edition is $12.99. It is book one of a planned trilogy and is Kemper’s first published book. He blogs at ReidKemper.com.
Vic’s Lab, LLC, focuses on fans of young adult science fiction and fantasy books—especially those who also like superhero movies, anime, RPG video games, and similar media.
