Beyond the Boroughs National Scholarship Fund Announces Opening Date for Their 2015 Application Process

Seven Year Old Scholarship Fund Started by Former NFL Offensive Lineman Tutan Reyes Pushes to Skyrocket Students to Their Next Level of Educational Success.

New York, NY, December 10, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Beyond the Boroughs National Scholarship Fund, (http://www.beyondtheboroughs.org/), a public charity organization announced today the open application dates for their 2015 scholarship fund. The not-for-profit emphasizes the organization’s mission to provide college scholarships to deserving students that have received acceptance letters but carry the burden of unmet financial need. To qualify for a scholarship, students must reside in the U.S, within a low income household, they must be entering /or currently attending an accredited four year college or university, have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, and be currently involved in extracurricular activities or hold a current job. Beyond the Boroughs will begin accepting scholarship applications on January 15th, 2015 with the application process closing out and entering the decision process on March 15, 2015. Application submissions are free of charge and can be submitted online by visiting http://www.beyondtheboroughs.org/ and clicking the “Apply for a scholarship” link. Beyond The Boroughs National Scholarship Fund was created by Veteran NFL player Tutan Reyes in 2007 and has seen year over year growth in all areas including donations, scholarships distributed and national awareness for their cause. Reyes himself, in his earlier years as a student, was awarded full scholarship to attend the University of Mississippi. He created Beyond the Boroughs after fully realizing the impact that full scholarship had on his life. Reyes credits his immense success to his opportunity to attend college and pursue his NFL dreams.

“As someone who grew up in an inner city it is important to me that the messages we communicate to our young people actually match the support that we are willing to provide them nationally. It’s important to show them that there are options beyond the walls of what they see and experience on a daily basis in their home towns and cities. For all of the students that we assist it is not possible for their families to provide the financial support that is needed for them to achieve their educational dreams and goals,” states Beyond The Boroughs National Scholarship Fund Founder Tutan Reyes. “Imagine telling your child that when they grow up they can be anything that they dream of as long as they put their mind to it, and then when it is time for them to go to college you don’t have the funds for them attend the school of their choice, or any school at all for that matter. It’s disheartening for parents struggling to make ends meet and can be exceptionally discouraging for hardworking students. It’s a gap that we bridge year after year at Beyond the Boroughs. A student’s potential and opportunities should not be lost because of economic disparities.”

In 2013 alone Beyond the Boroughs selected 11 students to receive $24,500 in funds to assist them in the pursuance of their college careers. Scholarship winners were from all over the country and in many cases represent first generation college students in their families. Beyond the Borough offers general scholarships for up to $5,000 per year and named scholarships under personal, family or business titles that can help pay for a student’s semester starting at as low as a $2,500 donation. Last year’s $5,000 scholarship awardees included Jay Pal Hunter attending Hunter College, Nikolette Boyd attending the University of California, Davis, and Sahir Karani attending New York University Polytechnic Institute. One of the organization’s biggest opportunities to contribute occurs during their ever popular NFL Draft week event where donors have the chance to meet students, rub elbows with elite NFL veterans, current players and celebrities, all while watching NFL Draft picks take place on a jumbo screen For 2015 the charity will make changes to the event to accommodate the NFL Draft taking place in Chicago Illinois however it will still remain one of their largest fundraising functions of the year. Sponsors and donors have the option of participating in funding scholarships with various levels of contributions ranging from $2,500 up to 30K+.
