First Nations Foundation Launches the 2014 Indigenous Financial Literacy Report

Much anticipated, the 2014 launch of the "My Moola" program evaluation report aims to further evaluate the benefits of the My Moola program for Indigenous participants, and in particular identify enhancements that would support a broader national roll-out.

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, December 11, 2014 --(PR.com)-- First Nations Foundation (FNF) in collaboration with the Brotherhood of Saint Lawrence are pleased to announce the launch of the 2014 ‘My Moola’ program evaluation report. The much anticipated report, due for release on December 12th 2014, is the evaluation of the Opening Financial Pathways program.

Consisting of a highly esteemed team, the report included work by Dr. Nikki Moodie, Fatoumatta Diallo Roost, Dr. Eric Dommers and funding from a number of high profile organisations including the Rio Tinto Aboriginal Fund, (former) Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, (former) Department of Education and Workplace Relations, and a number of Indigenous community organisations and Not-For-Profit agencies.

FNF CEO, Trevor Pearce said “It is refreshing to not always be dealing with Indigenous disadvantage and the perception of deficit. It’s more rewarding and engaging to be proactively dealing with capacity building of individual families and communities.”

He added that “Financial literacy is still a major challenge and ongoing preventative work in dealing with the core issues by addressing the disadvantage have inter-generational flow on effects.”

Dr. Nikki Moodie, who was a key contributor towards the report said “The response we received from participants was over whelming and the results indicate that the program has made significant changes to the lives and financial competency of the participants.”

“My Moola has the capacity to provide unique and culturally appropriate support for Indigenous staff in all sectors,” said Dr. Moodie.

Building on the progress that has been made in the area of Indigenous employment across all sectors of the community, many employers are now looking to identify successful strategies to support and retain their Indigenous staff.

As a result, My Moola is now being delivered to some of Australia’s leading corporate companies in the resources and other industry as well as into community organisations in Victorian, Western Australia, Northern Territory and New South Wales.

The My Moola program is an adult financial literacy program for members of Indigenous communities and is delivered by Indigenous facilitators. This program offers the capacity to provide unique and culturally appropriate support for Indigenous staff in all sectors.
