Accomplished Medical Student Wins Prestigious Thieme-Sponsored 2014 SOMA Foundation Scholarship
New York, NY, December 14, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Thieme is proud to announce that Madeline Nguyen, a fourth year osteopathic medical student at Touro University California College of Osteopathic Medicine in Vallejo, California, USA, has been awarded the 2014 Humanism in Medicine Scholarship from the Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA) Foundation. Thieme Publishers has sponsored this Scholarship since 2014. Through an affiliate agreement with SOMA, Thieme regularly provides valuable academic resources to incoming SOMA members.
This scholarship was created to honor the eight SOMA members who perished in October, 2004 during a flight to Kirksville, Missouri to explore ways of creating a “compassionate campus” at the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. Applicants were judged on how well their character demonstrates the philosophy of osteopathic medicine, unconditional love for their community and peers, and leadership and dedication. Madeline Nguyen perfectly exemplifies these qualities, as she has extensive healthcare leadership and research experience and has participated in volunteer activities that include work at the Touro Student-Run Health Clinic. As a dual-degree osteopathic medical and Master’s of Public Health student, Madeline has developed a richer understanding of community medicine and how to incorporate principles of population health into the clinical arena.
