CalActive.com Launches Super Portal for Outdoor Activities

Laguna Beach, CA, November 09, 2007 --(PR.com)-- A new way to book California vacation activities has arrived, www.calactive.com. CalActive is California’s outdoor activities super store, with over 300 activities to choose and confirm online. Unlike web directories, CalActive is an online activity broker, working with small activity companies and major corporations to aggregate and organize the myriad fun things to do in California.

With over 350 million annual visitors, California is the most visited state in the US. And with a temperate year-round climate, hundreds of miles of Pacific coastline, mountains, desert, and of course the major metropolitan destinations of San Francisco, LA, San Diego and Palm Springs, California is the world’s playground. In a single day one can ski, surf, tour celebrity homes, play golf, go hot air ballooning, kayaking, flying, or to a theme park. There are so many things to do and see, the problem is planning and choosing the right ones for you. CalActive makes it simple by organizing the activities by type (land, sea, air), region (Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego, Inland Empire), and category (family, romance, sightseeing, competition, culture, kids, thrills, lessons, group). CalActive is highly intuitive and easy to navigate. Each search turns up a Results page with thumbnail descriptions of each activity under that heading. A further click takes you to the Details page, where the individual activity is described in detail. Each activity can then be placed in the Shopping Cart, and the entire slate of vacation activities can be booked with one click. Customers are then issued an electronic E-Ticket which confirms their bookings and is then redeemed onsite.

“Independent activity brokers are an established business in Hawaii,” says CalActive Founder and Funtrepeneur Billy Fried. “They started as brick and mortar kiosks in the tourist centers, and naturally migrated to the web. It’s never been done in California because everything is too spread out. But the web changes everything and enables us to consolidate and organize all the activities into one portal,” says Fried.

In addition to 350 million visitors, there are 36 million California residents looking for fun weekend activities. CalActive serves them as well. In fact, half of all current CalActive bookings come from California residents. “We all live and play in California,” says CalActive Managing Director Megan Rainnie. “And yet, when we built this website we discovered so many activities we didn’t know existed. So not only do we run the company, we’re customers as well. And because we are located in the epicenter of Southern California (Laguna Beach), our staff plays as hard as they work, and thus have an intimate knowledge of the activity offerings.”
