Career Step to Donate $5,000 to Special Olympics as a Result of Employee Wellness Initiative
Career Step is pleased to announce that through the efforts of its approximately 100 employees the company will be donating $5,000 to Special Olympics.
Provo, UT, December 31, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Career Step, an online provider of career-focused education and corporate training, is pleased to announce that through the efforts of its approximately 100 employees the company will be donating $5,000 to Special Olympics. The donations were earned by employees on a per mile basis as they walked, ran and biked over the course of the year in participation in one of Career Step’s wellness initiatives—Workout Wednesday! (WoW!). This brings Career Step’s total donation to Special Olympics for the year to $15,000.
“We have a phenomenal team here at Career Step,” said CEO Steve Tober. “Workout Wednesday! is a way to encourage employees to get out of the office, enjoy our beautiful surroundings here in Utah and build stronger relationships with each other. Giving back to our community is a strong part of our culture so it made sense to add a charitable component to this wellness program. This gives all of us the chance to exercise and get out of the office while also contributing to a meaningful cause as a team here at Career Step.”
Career Step holds a WoW! event at least once a month, twice when the weather allows. When the weather is warm enough, employees are encouraged to get out of the office and walk, run or bike with their co-workers. Employees participate in groups during their lunch hour and then all of the groups came together to enjoy lunch afterward. Employees report their miles, which equate to a certain dollar amount per mile traveled. From May to November, Career Step employees put in approximately 2,500 miles.
Career Step partnered with Special Olympics this year. Several times over the summer athletes from Special Olympics joined Career Step employees for WoW! events and Career Step employees also volunteered at various Special Olympics state and regional events. This partnership made Special Olympics the WoW! charity of choice.
“Our mission at Career Step really revolves around making a difference—in the lives of our students, in the lives of our employees, in the lives of Special Olympics athletes, and in the community we live in,” said Allen Miller, the Career Step Vice President of People Strategy. “Workout Wednesday! has become another way we live that mission. We are thrilled with the results of this year’s initiative and look forward to seeing what we can achieve together in 2015.”
