Blue Ridge Acupuncture to Donate Entire Day of Treatment to Local Charity, Wine to Water
Blue Ridge Acupuncture and Herb Center will be holding a charity day in its office on Shadowline Drive, for Wine to Water on December 5th, 2007. Wine to Water provides clean water facilities, education and training to people in emerging nations around the world.
Boone, NC, November 13, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Wine to Water is a local organization, head quartered on King St in Boone. Their goal is to empower third-world communities with training, resources, and technology, enabling them to solve their individual water and sanitation needs. Wine to Water achieves this goal by identifying and building relationships with reputable, local organizations already operating in the region, and then meeting their needs. Since its first fund raiser in Raleigh, NC, in 2004 the organization has helped people in Dafur, Uganda, Ethiopia, Cambodia and India. By linking up with locally established organizations, Wine to Water can support local economies and save expenses on travel, administration, and staffing. Volunteers donate expertise and time in order to maintain operational stability and efficiency, reducing overall organizational expenses. It is an organization that is focused on giving of itself in order to insure that every dollar possible is going to the people who need it.
Just over one quarter of the worlds population uses Oriental Medicine as its primary health care system. Acupuncture as part of Oriental medicine has a documented clinical history of over 3000 years, and yet it was almost unheard of in the United States until the late 70's. The World Health Organization recognizes acupuncture as an effective and safe way to treat over 50 different diseases, ranging from pain, (acute and chronic) to infections, mental/emotional problems like depression to infertility and digestive disorders.
Torrey Gorla, (the practitioner at Blue Ridge Acupuncture) stated the idea of a charity day came from his wife Lisa while trying to think of ways to serve those in need and expand Community Education Month, promoting the benefits of Oriental medicine to a wider audience.
The sessions available on December 5th will be most effective for people suffering from acute or chronic pain, headaches or sinus problems, as these types of conditions see improvements in just one treatment. However people with any health condition are welcome to experience acupuncture, or to stop by the office to receive more information. Acupuncture sessions will last just under an hour. The entire treatment revenue on Wednesday, December 5th will be donated to Wine to Water.
Torrey Gorla , is board certified in Oriental medicine, Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology. He received his BA in Psychology from the University of Rhode Island, and M S in Oriental Medicine from South West Acupuncture College in Santa Fe, NM, one of the most respected Oriental medical schools in the country. He has interned at St. Vincent Hospital, Santa Fe, NM, Integrated Oncology Department, and has advanced clinical training in pain management, anxiety/depression, and women's health. Torrey practiced in Rhode Island before moving to Boone four years ago with his family.
