Visionary Dance Theatre Partnership and Sponsorship with Point Loma High School Theatre & Dance Company
San Diego, CA, January 06, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Visionary Dance Theatre (VDT) is excited to announce a new partnership and sponsorship with Point Loma High School (PLHS).
Through collaboration with Christina Fulcher, Artistic Director of Theatre & Dance Company at Point Loma High School, PLHS Theatre & Dance Company has become an official sponsor of Visionary Dance Theatre for VDT’s 2014-2015 season. PLHS will be hosting VDT’s 5th Anniversary dance concert titled "Perseverance." "Perseverance” is a celebration of Visionary’s five years providing dance, music, and theatre to the San Diego community. Earlier in the 2014-2015 season, PLHS Theatre & Dance Company hosted VDT’s fall dance concert titled “Travelogue,” featuring the works of internationally-acclaimed choreographer Jeanne Travers.
Additionally, VDT continues its mission of enhancing the community with the performing arts by providing outreach to PLHS. Through this outreach VDT aims to help grow and revitalize the PLHS Theatre & Dance programs. VDT will be choreographing work on the PLHS Dance Company for their CoffeeHouse & Spring Dance Showcase. This will provide mentoring to the students by the VDT company members. This exchange between student and professional company members will provide an opportunity to enlighten the students about the experience, practice, and discipline about being a professional dancer. This can fuel the dreams and inspiration of those students that have the performing arts in their sights. Alongside the involvement in the PLHS Dance Company, Artistic Director Spencer John Powell will be joining the PLHS Theatre Company’s musical theater production of "Bye Bye Birdie" as the choreographer. This will give the Theatre and Dance students an opportunity to learn from and have choreography set on them by a professional choreographer. VDT has historically provided outreach support to Helix Charter High School (HCHS) through Dance Department Director Katie O’Rourke. At HCHS VDT set work on the students for their school dance concerts. VDT additionally partnered on a special production titled “Where the Wild Things Are”, based on the popular children’s book. In this special performance project all choreography and lighting design was set by VDT on the HCHS students proving the experience of a full-featured, evening-length production.
"I am so very excited for this new partnership with Point Loma High School. I feel that this is a beneficial relationship on both sides that will help bring needed attention to both or our organizations and help us both in our collective mission of spreading the performing arts. I am thankful and grateful to Christina Fulcher for opening her heart and her school to us and would like to openly thank her for this opportunity." – Spencer John Powell, Artistic Director of Visionary Dance Theatre
Visionary Dance Theatre and Point Loma High School Theatre & Dance Company look to the community to join them in their individual and collective missions through community support whether it’s attending a performance, donating, or just spreading the word of this new partnership.
