Welspun Renewables Helps Start Street School for Slum Children; Fills in Missing Gap in the Education Backbone
Welspun Renewables Launches Mumbai Education Chapter, Partners with AngelXpress. Lives of 80 children positively touched through Welspun Renewables’ street school. Through its education program, Welspun Renewables has touched 5000 lives across India.
Mumbai, India, January 07, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Welspun Renewables, India’s foremost clean energy generator, is ensuring marginalized children gain proficiency in subjects which are critical to success in today’s economy. Part of its sustainability initiative, it has helped start a center with AngelXpress where children from neighboring slums attend special classes. Today the Mahakali Caves’ Centre runs two batches a day with almost 80 enthusiastic children. Under Welspun Renewables broad education program, it has touched over 5000 lives across India and is working aggressively for increasing this number.
There are 4.5 lakh underserved children who attend Municipal schools in Mumbai. Unfortunately as per reports, almost 80% of these are at near illiteracy level even after 4 to 5 years of schooling. Since the backbone of education is missing at home, most children are unable to clearly understand their lessons.
Welspun Renewables’ initiative with AngelXpress seeks to fill in this gap. The not-for-profit center reaches out to students and offers them a consistent environment where subjects are taught in classes held before and after school timings. The street school is an ingenious way to reach out to students given the space confines of the city.
Mr. Vineet Mittal, Vice Chairman Welspun Renewables said, “Our vision has been to secure the future of our country. Through our multi pronged approach we are ensuring a brighter clean energy future, but also a brighter future for our children. We have taken up various initiatives to help children gain access to better quality of education. Our latest tie-up with AngelXpress enables us to reach underserved children in Mumbai's slums and contribute towards improving the literacy rates in these regions.”
Ms. Anubha Sharma, Founder AngelXpress Foundation said, “At AngelXpress Foundation we like to say 'They can turn out to be Champions if you Champion their cause.' We believe in community involvement and advocate that children benefit from connect with educated adults. Welspun Renewable was our first corporate tie-up to support underprivileged children in their neighborhood. This partnership promises to change lives of these children & of those connected with them. We would love to invite more and more corporates to come and help with such initiatives around them.”
