YMCA Honors Author and Journalist Dominic Carter

New York, NY, November 11, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Dominic Carter, prominent journalist and author of the iUniverse book No Momma’s Boy, was among the authors, artists and musicians recently honored by the YMCA of Greater New York.

During its annual Arts & Letters Auction and Reception, the YMCA presented Carter with the Virtual Y Excellence Award. The event raised more than $500,000 to support the YMCA's Virtual Y, a pioneering afterschool program operating in more than 90 public schools throughout New York.

A reading by Carter was among the highlight performances of the evening. Performances by the ballroom dancers of the Staten Island YMCA's Virtual Y program at PS 44 as well as selections and scenes from the works of other honorees rounded out the evening. The event was emceed by Academy Award(r)-winning actor Marcia Gay Harden.

Additional recipients of the award included Tony Kushner, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of “Angels in America" and Christian Hoff, Tony Award(r)-winning performer in Broadway's "Jersey Boys."
