Love A Child Announces David Balsbaugh as Director of Sustainable Development
Fort Myers nonprofit expands sustainability initiatives in Haiti.
Fort Myers, FL, January 23, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Love A Child, a nonprofit Christian humanitarian relief and development organization headquartered in Fort Myers, today announced that David Balsbaugh has joined the organization in a newly created position as the director of sustainable development.
Balsbaugh will have oversight of the strategic direction, expansion and implementation of the sustainability initiatives of Love A Child, which are already having a major impact on helping to reduce poverty in the region of Fond Parisien, Haiti. Love A Child’s sustainable development programs support local production of goods and services through agricultural and business skill training, reforestation efforts, micro-loans for new businesses and more. Also, programs like the chicken co-op, in addition to demonstrating improved gardening methods, continue to help more Haitian families become self-sufficient by offering specialized training and mentoring to establish successful businesses.
“We are happy that David has joined our ministry with his skills to help Haitian development in these areas,” said founder and director of Love A Child, Bobby Burnette. “He shares our values and our focus on serving the needs of the poor in Haiti. He has shown himself to be highly educated in sustainable agriculture and agroforestry, as well as passionate about teaching others.”
“I am honored to join Love A Child in this newly created position, and look forward to working with the team in Haiti to further enrich our sustainable development programs,” said Balsbaugh. “I admire the impact Love A Child has on families’ lives and hope to contribute by advancing environmental and socio-economic improvements in Haiti, that help to break the cycle of poverty for our neighbors.”
Balsbaugh joins the nonprofit with more than 20 years of international agriculture, community development and instruction experience. Prior to joining Love A Child, Balsbaugh in his earlier career served as director of education programs with Educational Concerns for Hunger Organization (ECHO). Furthermore, he spent several years as an instructor of sustainable agriculture for college mission students for H.E.A.R.T. Missionary Institute, as well as directing an agriculture and discipleship training center in Malawi, Africa with Nazarene World Mission.
