Leading Music Services Company, FirstCom Music, Pacts with John Fulford to Remix Renowned Catalog
FirstCom Music Opens Up Back Catalog with Fresh Remixes for Licensing Opportunities with New Collection: The Remix Project.
Dallas, TX, January 29, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Anyone familiar with production music will tell you that it is making a rapid rise in popularity in the current music licensing landscape. And it’s not surprising: curated in easy-to-license collections, music from service leaders like the Dallas, TX-headquartered FirstCom Music offers creative music solutions for all types of projects, from TV commercials to radio, broadcast networks to feature films. With their latest offering, The Remix Project, FirstCom Music has tapped renowned composer John Fulford (a force of nature composer well known for his connections to the electronic and hip hop scene) to dust off classics from the back of the FirstCom catalog and re-imagine these tracks. The result is a delightfully creative collection of remixes from hip hop to dance, pop and electronica. The project marks the first of its kind from any major production music library.
The FirstCom Music catalog is a rich resource that is replete with quality music in every genre. Well-known artists and DJ’s have long looked to FirstCom Music and its industry award-winning composers for inspiration and music solutions. The market need for FirstCom’s The Remix Project is a timely one for music supervisors as trends in licensing move away from just cutting and pasting a commercial pop song into a project, and move toward customized works such as remixes to create something unique.
“Film/TV productions and brands need a fresh approach to music while maintaining a familiar note that is accessible to the viewer/listener. Utilizing tracks from FirstCom’s back catalog and spinning a fresh take on them checks off both boxes in one swipe,” commented Tim Bickford, FirstCom Music Supervisor.
When Bickford first approached John Fulford for The Remix Project, things clicked into place. “John is plugged into the electronic & hip hop scene. He knows what’s trending and what’s just over the horizon. The direction we wanted to take on this album was right in his wheelhouse,” added Bickford.
Force of nature, John Fulford established himself in 2006 when he began pitching his own music while working a day job in retail promotions for an indie record label. His fearlessness in cold-calling and overall success quickly garnered the attention of Steve Aoki who then positioned John as the Director of Sync Licensing for Dim Mak Records. John has successfully negotiated features for Dim Mak Artists in commercials, TV shows, apps, trailers and other properties including but not limited to Gossip Girl, the 2014 Video Music Awards, commercials for Sony PS Vita, Mountain Dew and many more.
But he’s not just an expert in synch, Fulford's own music has appeared in over 1,200 episodes of TV, including Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Glee, CSI NY, Hello Ladies and Breaking Bad along with projects such as American Reunion, Sunset Limited (films) and most recently a nationwide Google Chromecast TV commercial.
So when FirstCom came knocking, Fulford jumped on board: “I'm excited about this project because of the depth and variety of the FirstCom catalogue. Each track FirstCom presented as a possible remix candidate was unique in its own way yet still kept true to the time period and genre in which it was recorded,” commented Fulford.
The FirstCom team presented Fulford with a wide array of styles so that the project would have the flexibility to move in whichever direction was needed. “Ultimately, the tracks we selected all have strong lyrical hooks that create instant visual imagery,” said Bickford.
And when it was time to give his stamp of approval on the collection, FirstCom Senior Vice President and Executive Producer, Ken Nelson was pleased to give the green light: “John has an incredibly creative approach to remixes, the variety of this project is stunning. He managed to breathe new (and sometimes hilarious) life into these vintage FirstCom Music tracks. The result is a film and TV focused collection that captures every possible pop music reference from 50s doo wop to hip hop, dance, retro country and even 60s surf into one freshly remixed package! You can’t get anything like this anywhere else if you need creative, fresh and fun songs.”
FirstCom Music prides itself for its creative solutions for music supervisors. The Remix Project is its latest example of being additive to the licensing process and meeting the needs of the licensing community.
