Washington DC Metropolitan Police Department Project Receives the 2015 IJIS Institute Innovation Award

Ashburn, VA, January 29, 2015 --(PR.com)-- The IJIS Institute – a nonprofit organization focused on mission-critical information sharing for justice, public safety, and homeland security – is pleased to announce the Washington D.C. Metro Police Department MPD Aware project as the recipient of the IJIS Institute Innovation Award. The award celebrates the accomplishments of the police department along with MPD Aware industry partners, Microsoft and Esri. The award was presented at the Badge & Tech Benefit & Awards Dinner on January 22, 2015, at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, Virginia.

With the MPD Aware project, the Metropolitan Police Department has a unified view across several law enforcement systems that allows for real-time, comprehensive, interdepartmental information sharing using national standards. MPD Aware enables the real-time sharing, analysis, and visualization of normalized information from the 9-1-1 Computer Aided Dispatch, Records Management System, Wants/Warrants, Gun Shot Detection, License Plate Readers, as well as closed-circuit television cameras and geographic information systems for maps, data management, and analytics. This system furthers MPD’s mission in preventing crime and the fear of crime.

The annual IJIS Institute Innovation Award recognizes technical innovation that has contributed significantly to the advancement of integration and interoperability in a justice, public safety or homeland security. The award, which is open to any company providing justice, public safety, or homeland security solutions, is for team achievement by an industry partner and a Federal, state, local, or tribal agency.
