The Weidt Group Enters Boston Metro Area to Improve Lifelong Building Energy Performance
Energy and Software Consulting Firm Advances Energy Modeling and Benchmarking for State of Massachusetts with Team of Leading Energy Experts.
Boston, MA, January 31, 2015 --(PR.com)-- The Weidt Group®, offering energy analysis and consulting to improve the environmental impacts of building design and construction, has announced its expansion into the Boston Metro area, which marks its first office on the East Coast. Massachusetts’ growing emphasis on energy efficiency presented The Weidt Group, a company with a strong tradition of energy thought leadership, with an opportunity to increase the firm’s geographical footprint.
The Weidt Group works to address energy efficiency with greater speed and accuracy through its software and services to the State’s public and private sector organizations. As a result, the firm will immediately bring its energy services to two major project wins secured for the State of Massachusetts. One of the projects is for the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport), where The Weidt Group will provide energy analysis on an existing terminal.
Additionally, The Weidt Group has partnered with the Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships (NEEP) and Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER) to develop the “Building Asset Rating” (BAR) pilot project. This undertaking seeks to develop and test new ways of assessing the energy performance of buildings using a standardized energy rating metric that more cost effectively assists building owners in making informed energy efficiency decisions. Asset ratings gauge a building’s energy consumption through as-built characteristics, including insulation, windows, mechanical and electrical systems, among others. The Weidt Group’s thought leadership in this area will help further Massachusetts’ position as a state leading the country in energy efficiency efforts.
Chris Baker, AIA, PE, BEMP, BEAP, LEED® AP BD+C, business development leader of Energy Design Assistance for commercial new construction, will oversee the firm’s Boston operations as well as energy-efficient design efforts for the Massachusetts market. The Weidt Group will fully integrate services throughout the Boston Metro area, hiring top talent to create entirely new possibilities for shaping the energy market.
“The Weidt Group staff consists of vastly experienced energy analysts and software professionals with noteworthy technical expertise and management experience,” said Baker. “We look forward to new opportunities in Massachusetts and contributing to the future growth of the State’s leadership in energy and technology.”
The Weidt Group is the energy practice of EYP, a renowned global provider of high-performance building design, research and consulting services to higher education, government, healthcare and corporate clients. In 2012, The Weidt Group merged with EYP, as both firms share a history of designing innovative, high-performance buildings and helping clients manage their energy consumption.
Today, The Weidt Group consults on every EYP project bringing immediate and comprehensive energy analysis that optimizes performance potential from pre-design concepts through final design and into building operations. Together with EYP, The Weidt Group will bring unmatched energy analysis and consulting services to businesses across the State.
“The need and demand for high performance buildings through advanced energy efficiency has never been greater,” said Baker. “A recent report by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) shows that current energy use and associated gas emissions will double by 2050. The Weidt Group’s expansion is essential in solving this problem and meeting energy demands in a timely and cost-effective manner.”
Since 2006, Baker has provided energy modeling consulting on more than 100 commercial projects and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) consulting on multiple projects. He is a creator of The Weidt Group’s Predesign Energy Analysis Tool and co-creator of the Net Zero Charrette Tool, and he serves as energy liaison to the firm’s software department to collaborate on new tools and services.
“The Weidt Group and its market entrance into Boston is a natural and essential part of the evolution of the EYP family of practices,” said Tom Birdsey, president and CEO of EYP. “We look forward to the leadership this growth will provide current and existing clients and to how The Weidt Group’s unsurpassed energy services will continue to help shape the energy performance of both new and existing buildings nationwide.”
