VASTEC Now Offering Free Section 508 Assessment and Report
Washington, DC, February 04, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Furthering a commitment to best serve individuals with disabilities and help federal agencies and commercial enterprises better understand their Section 508 requirements, VASTEC is launching a complimentary document assessment program. Upon request VASTEC will analyze a sampling of documents for accessibility, and then issue an assessment report, at no cost or obligation.
“Understanding electronic information accessibility can be daunting for coordinators who take on compliance obligations. Sometimes the biggest problem is just knowing where to start,” said Shelby Tudor, VASTEC’s Program Manager for Accessibility Services. “Through this new service, we hope to provide information that will help coordinators better understand if they have compliance needs, and what those issues might be.”
Under this program a range of documents are eligible for free assessment, including PDFs and WORD documents.
“Our document assessment will provide an overview on whether information is accessible,” Tudor said. “If we find issues that can be corrected through remediation, those will be specified in the report, providing information that will be helpful in determining how to proceed.”
Section 508 refers to a 1998 amendment of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, which requires Federal agencies that develop, procure, maintain, or use electronic and information technology ensure it is accessible to people with disabilities.
VASTEC works to help both government and commercial clients better understand information accessibility and their options through VASTEC’s customized offerings. That is one reason why VASTEC has been chosen to provide Section 508 services to a number of Federal agencies, including the Social Security Administration, the Internal Revenue Service, and the U.S. Government Printing Office.
VASTEC accessibility services include:
· Website Accessibility Review
· PDF Document and Form Remediation
· Accessibility Training
· Section 508 Consulting
· Compliance Certifications
In every project VASTEC’s best practices guide production of electronic documents to WCAG 2.0 standards that meet and exceed Section 508 requirements. Industry leading quality assurance measures include review of the documents by assistive technology quality control testers to ensure individuals with disabilities have access to and use of information and data that is comparable to that of persons without disabilities.
VASTEC offers extensive knowledge of and experience with many popular assistive technology applications and devices including speech-to-text, magnifying and screen reading software. Patented technology allows the disabled full access to the content of their documents without affecting the document’s visual appearance and is compatible with all screen readers without changes.
