Polycarbonate Sheet Technologies from Bayer MaterialScience: Strength, Glass-Like Transparency and Durability for Glazing
Los Angeles, CA, February 09, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Large, metropolitan regions are not only hubs for commercial construction, but they are also the areas that are most vulnerable to attacks and catastrophic losses from natural disasters, like tornadoes or hurricanes. Whether renovating or building new structures, protection of occupants and assets has become a top priority for today’s architects.
Bayer MaterialScience LLC offers a portfolio of high-performance plastics that not only provides protection and security, but also offers the design flexibility and energy efficiency desired in modern façades.
The company’s polycarbonate sheet technologies provide architects with an economical and attractive option for meeting a variety of high-performance requirements for safety, security and energy-efficient glazing applications.
Here’s a closer look.
Lightweight, transparent Hygard® EX blast-resistant panels offer appealing architectural aesthetics and comply with energy-efficiency requirements for fenestration products. Bayer also offers a complete façade system – the Hygard® Sentinel structural façade. This fully-engineered solution combines the aesthetics, daylighting and impact resistance of Hygard® laminate panels with a high-strength, energy-absorbing steel mounting structure. This façade system is especially useful for protecting mission-critical buildings and other structures with limited stand-off distance.
Both the Hygard® EX panels and Hygard® Sentinel system meet and exceed federal government blast hazard mitigation standards for the GSA, Department of Defense and the U.S. Department of State.
At the core of the Hygard® products is Makrolon® polycarbonate. Unlike security glass, strong, lightweight Makrolon polycarbonate sheet does not spall or crack on impact. It is also abrasion and weathering resistant.
Bayer will highlight its polycarbonate sheet technologies for building security and protection at Facades+. The conference, presented by The Architect’s Newspaper and Enclos, takes place Feb. 5-6 in Los Angeles.
