“The Story of Hollywood” Wins National Best Book Award 2007

Hollywood, CA, November 15, 2007 --(PR.com)-- “The Story of Hollywood: An Illustrated History” by author-historian Gregory Paul Williams, has received the National Best Book Award 2007 from USABookNews.com in the Film/TV/Radio category. It is the second award for the lavishly illustrated book which won a Silver Medal for Best Non-Fiction book in the Pacific Western Region at the 11th Annual Independent Publishers Book Awards this past Spring.

Illustrated with over 800 vintage images from the author’s private collection, some never-before-published, “The Story of Hollywood” takes readers on the ultimate armchair tour of one of the most famous places on earth.

Hollywood, California gave movies their birthplace which became a large-scale, multi-billion dollar global business. “The Story of Hollywood: An Illustrated History” is a journey beyond the star-studded surface to the town’s earliest days, taking readers through eras of strikes, gangsters, scandals, seedy decline and renewal.

The book features the movie stars and famous places that made the town legendary, offering a unique perspective on celebrity nightlife and the behind-the-scene stories of the entertainment capital of the world.

Ed Leibowtiz for Los Angeles Magazine called the book “extraordinary.” Film critic Leonard Maltin wrote, “This rich historical account gets my highest recommendation.”

The National Best Book Awards are sponsored by USABookNews.com, an online publication providing coverage for books from mainstream and independent publishers. Winners and finalists cut across the publishing landscape: Simon & Schuster, Penguin-Putnam, HarperCollins, Random House, McGraw-Hill, Houghton Mifflin Co., John Wiley & Sons & hundreds of independent titles.

Together with his father Dino, Greg created BL Press to publish the work that receives national distribution through Greenleaf Book Group. Working for twelve years to create the book, the father and son team were both born and raised in Hollywood. “We are happy to see our hometown’s history preserved in print if not in the district itself,” says Greg.
