Los Angeles, CA, November 16, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Actor / comedian Willie Macc will let the public decide the fate of his afro.
One of the most recognizable elements of his branded look for almost 10 years, fans of the actor have submitted a slew of emails, myspace messages and comments encouraging him to keep it. While loved by many industry insiders, the unique retro look that made him one of the most recognizable cast members on Season 4 of BET's "College Hill Virgin Islands" other comments have cast doubt on whether or not the afro is suited for the majority of today's Hollywood roles.
Best known to date as the funny man on College Hill Virgin Islands, Willie Macc's afro has certainly not stood in the way of him having a busy few months since the reality series aired this past spring. Since his "graduation" from College Hill, he completed a green-screen photo shoot so that his likeness could be used for one of the lead characters in a new animated pilot and entertained TV viewers by appearing in multiple episodes of CSI, BET's 106th & Park, BET's live game show Take the Cake, and an episode of NBC's new series, "Journeyman". Willie Macc just wrapped a direct to video movie where he takes on the "Chris Tucker" role in the Friday-like comedy. In February 2008, he will be seen in his first major studio movie from Fox / Regency which was filmed this past summer.
While completing the production of two of his sketch comedy skits, Willie Macc also entertained live audiences in Los Angeles and New Orleans with his stand-up comedy routine. Not to be outdone by his low-haircut fellow actors, Willie Macc landed several hosting and presenting gigs including one for Boost Mobile EPK interview of Jermaine Dupree and Young Jeezy, center-stage host for the 2007 LA Stars Celebrity Weekend Carnival, and as a presenter at the First Regional Hip Hop Awards and the upcoming 15th Annual Inner City Destiny Awards.
When asked about his thoughts on if his hair style is holding him back, Willie Macc responded, "I've worked a little these past months; (it) didn't get me in "American Gangster", but a lot of other folks didn't get in it either. Hey, but if cutting the fro will land me the role of the son in the new Bernie Mac comedy series, pass me the scissors. Afro or not, I'm still gonna be Willie Macc B&@ch....." (explicit deleted), the latter being a line that he made famous during his College Hill days.
You can let Willie Macc know your opinion as to whether he should keep the fro or let it go by voting at www.myspace.com/kingonthemic or by sending a text message (provided by www.polleverywhere.com) to '41411' (Keep the Afro - text "cast 11251", Fro must go - text "cast 11252"):
Committed to going with the public's decision, fans of the actor wanting him to keep his afro will not be completely out of luck. If the public decides that the "Fro must go", 300 limited edition Willie Macc (afro) bobble head dolls will be made available. Fans wanting to reserve their bobble head should send an email to williemaccbobble@charlesbelk.com for more information.
