The Queen of Hawaiian Jazz to Perform for "The Hidden Jewels of Jazz" Fundraiser

Memphis, TN, February 13, 2015 --(PR.com)-- The Queen of Hawaiian Jazz; Azure McCall will be performing at the first fundraiser of the year benefitting The Dapper Dan Society at Neil’s Music Room, March 1, 2015, from 7-11 p.m. Joining her will be local jazz artists, Neo-soul Prince; Nick Black, Songstress; Tonya Dyson, Pianist; Brennan Villines, Violinist; Basil Alter and others. Tickets are $20 and available through Eventbrite.

The “Hidden Jewels of Jazz” Fundraiser which takes place on Sunday, 1st March from 7-11p.m. marks the official launch of The Dapper Dan Society’s Crowdfunding Campaign that runs until April 30th, 2015.

Azure McCall, over the course of her thirty year career has toured and performed with Michael Feinstein, the Honolulu Symphony, and other great jazz artists including Houston Person, Freddy Hubbard and Joe Sample. She is a two-time Na Hoku Award winner for Jazz Album of the Year, with “Harlem Nocturne” in 2002 and “Body and Soul” in 1999. Her colorful repertoire ranges from classical jazz to contemporary favorites and she has three CDs released; “Body and Soul”, “Harlem Nocturnes”, and “The Gift”.

Director of The Dapper Dan Society, Carla McClure stated,
"We have got to start addressing not only the fatherlessness, but the malelessness within the family unit as. I am delighted that Ms. McCall and the other artist have donated their time and talents for the mission. The local civic and business community have been really supportive of the project as well. Our program is also supported by the National Fatherhood Initiative, Watch D.O.G.S, the male volunteer chaperones.”

“The Hidden Jewels of Jazz” fundraiser will be a great way to lead up to the start of the program, showcase some magnificent local jazz talent, and raise funds for much needed training materials, interview clothing and more for the program participants.

The Dapper Dan Society’s mission; to end “Emotional, Financial and Physical Fatherlessness” in Memphis. It is in response to the $347,000 dollars spent annually, on the 47,000 fatherless households, in just 7 of the most economically challenged zip codes through federal support programs here in Memphis.
