Alexander Fiterstein, Clarinet, Returns for a Free Performance with Minnesota Sinfonia
Minneapolis, MN, February 17, 2015 --(PR.com)-- The Minnesota Sinfonia is excited to present von Weber – The Sequel featuring the return of Alexander Fiterstein, clarinet, performing Carl Maria von Weber’s Second Clarinet Concerto. The Minnesota Sinfonia is a Minnesota-based nonprofit dedicated to serving the musical needs of Minnesotans, focusing on children, seniors and those with limited financial means.
Known for his graceful phrasing and flawless technique, Fiterstein is the winner of several prestigious awards and grants including the 2009 Avery Fisher Career Grant Award. He has performed worldwide with several orchestras as well as his own ensemble – The Zimro Project. Fiterstein currently teaches clarinet at the University of Minnesota. This is his second performance with the Sinfonia.
Performances will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 20 at First Covenant Church in St. Paul and at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 22 at Temple Israel in Minneapolis. Admission is free and children are always welcome to attend. Audience members should arrive early—all concerts are first-come, first-seated.
Also on the program is Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 1 in D Major and Vielles Chansons de Nouvelle-France, a new work by local composer Michael Chergosky. This is the world premiere of Chergosky’s work and is made possible by a grant from the McKnight Foundation.
Chergosky is a composer from the Twin Cities whose works have previously been performed by the Lviv (Ukraine) Chamber Orchestra, the Lux String Quartet and more. Growing up in a musical household he was exposed to different styles of music and began playing violin at an early age. At the age of 16 Chergosky formed a string quartet and began composing his own works.
