Emma is an American and Canadian Patent Agent practicing in intellectual property for over 15 years, specializing in chemistry and the life sciences, with particular expertise in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, diagnostics, personalized medicine, and clean technologies. The Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) is a free trade agreement between Canada and the European Union. If approved, the agreement will become effective in 2016. Almost all tariffs between the two parties will be eliminated.
CETA covers many fields. One bulletin addresses provisions relating to patent law and data protection, addressing issues such as patent term restoration for pharmaceutical products other than those already approved and equivalent and effective rights of appeal for judicial decisions under the Patented Medicines Regulations among others.
