LeonidesArts Gallery New York is pleased to announce that multi-media visual artist Ricardo Osmondo Francis will be exhibiting his work in “The Art of Revolution,” a group art exhibition that opens Friday March 6, 2015 at the East End Studio Gallery in Houston, TX. Curated by Lizbeth Ortiz (Director of EESG) and guest curator Michael Wooten this exhibit explores the idea of revolution through the voice of artists. This exhibit is a reflection of the thoughts, emotions and life events Our Art.
New York, NY, March 07, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Inspired by Classical art, multi-ethnic antiquity, and present day advertisement imagery Francis’ distinctly complex mixed media collage paintings and drawings often depicts social and political aspects of humanity and the complexity of existence itself. Through realist expressionistic allegorical portraiture, still life, and abstract compositions, Francis’ work projects a more introspective look at race, culture, class, religion, and sexuality. The four new works featured in this exhibit offers a poignant yet mystifying account of a variety of pressing social issues of our current day and time. From the recent shootings of unarmed black teens and adults here in the US, to the ISIS terrorist group plots abroad, Francis’ paintings for “The Art of Revolution” reveals an impetuous survey of the world at large and provokes the viewer to question the idea of both liberty and revolution itself. Ricardo Osmondo Francis is a native of Houston, TX and grew up in the 3rd Ward neighborhood. He currently lives and works in New York City. He received a BFA in painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art (Baltimore, MD) in 1998 and is a graduate of the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in 1994. He presently is the Curator in Residence for the Brooklyn Community Pride Center in Brooklyn, NY and is the Gallery Director for LeonidesArts NY, an artist run non-profit visual arts organization whose mission is to present contemporary art exhibitions and public art projects that reflects a variety of distinct artistic styles, disciplines, themes, and cultural experiences. He has exhibited his work extensively in galleries and museums both domestically and internationally and was one the co-founders of BLAFTCO, a Houston based alternative art group http://www.eestudiogallery.com/call-to-artists/the-art-of-revolution/that was active through most of the 90’s and is the founder of Apanamae Productions, an independent art company that has premiered various art exhibits and performance art projects by the artist since 2000.
