Reason, Individualism, Freedom Institute President Attends Honors Seminar at Salve Regina University
Political Philosopher Khalil Habib Explores Ancient Ideas with Contemporary Relevance.
Chicago, IL, April 09, 2015 --(PR.com)-- On February 23, 2015 Marsha Familaro Enright, President of The Reason, Individualism, Freedom Institute (RIFI), participated in Pell Honors Program classes at Salve Regina University in Newport, RI with Honors Program Director, Professor Khalil Habib.
Professor Habib deftly led a lively discussion of Sophocles’ Oedipus Rex and Plato’s Republic, keying in on the timeless ideas of merit, responsibility, integrity, equality, and control in these classic works. The questions and comments from the students made it clear that the ideas in these works are as relevant today as they were 2,500 years ago.
The Reason, Individualism, Freedom Institute has invited Professor Habib to lead a class this summer at the Institute’s Great Connections Seminar, which is currently accepting applications from high school and college students for this July's seminar. Habib will discuss Montesquieu’s doctrine of the separation of powers in Spirit of the Laws as part of the seminar’s theme this summer, Reason and Power.
“The implementation of the separation of powers is crucial to maintaining a free society and a key theory for students to understand,” says Marsha Familaro Enright. “Yet standard education frequently fails to teach these and other ideas critical freedom. Our institute aims to insure students not only learn the ideas, but the means by which liberty is implemented in their own lives.”
The methodology used in The Great Connections seminar helps foster active minds by equipping students with the intellectual tools and the self-confidence to think for themselves. The seminar aims to fill the gap where formal education falls short—by unleashing the power of the mind and individuality of each student and providing an environment with materials and opportunities that produce versatile, creative thinkers.
RIFI invites parents and students to explore the website and apply for the July 2015 Great Connections Seminar. Scholarships and early bird discounted tuition rates are available. This summer will mark the sixth year of the seminar.
