De Gruyter Partners with Scope to Create MARC Records from ONIX/Klopotek XML Files
Chennai, India, March 14, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Scope e-Knowledge Center (Scope), a leading provider of knowledge services and a Quatrro Global Services company, has announced its engagement with De Gruyter, a leading academic publisher headquartered in Berlin, to create MARC records from ONIX or Klopotek XML files. As part of this partnership, Scope created MARC records for selected backlist and frontlist titles of partners, e-editions and print editions of De Gruyter across the humanities, STM and law domains.
ONIX, an XML-based standard for book metadata, provides a consistent way for publishers, retailers and their supply chain partners to communicate rich information about their products. Conversion of ONIX metadata to MARC21 format requires deep subject matter expertise to map the XML tags of ONIX files with the MARC fields.
De Gruyter chose Scope for creating MARC records from ONIX/Klopotek XML files along with bibliographic holding codes provided for selected backlist and new publications. Scope employed its proprietary MARC platform, mARCatTM, for this assignment. The mARCat platform can handle all versions of ONIX (2.0, 3.0 and 3.1). Scope has an experienced bibliographic/cataloging team comprising highly qualified library professionals and expertise in creating and updating MARC formats (AACR2 and RDA).
