VFS Named Top Animation School in Canada by 3D World, Reaches New Heights on YouTube
Vancouver, Canada, November 18, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Vancouver Film School (VFS), Canada's largest private post-secondary entertainment arts institution, is proud to have been named the top animation school in Canada and fifth best worldwide in 3D World Magazine's first global Ivy League ranking. VFS's Animation & Visual Effects department is the only one-year program in 3D World's top five. At the same time, VFS is enjoying unprecedented success on its YouTube channel featuring student work. Happy, a student film Michael Lewicki made in the Digital Character Animation program which was posted to the VFS channel only four weeks ago, has just topped one million views after being featured on the YouTube home page.
The list, aimed at aspiring 3D artists and compiled by 3D World for its 98th issue, was released in early November. The magazine calls its Ivy League Top 20 ranking "the most comprehensive and objective ranking of the world's 3D training institutions yet produced." 3D World also acknowledges that "courses in which students are given a long period of time to produce a degree film … also inevitably place higher," making the high ranking of VFS's one-year program all the more remarkable.
"It's a great tribute to the dedication of the students and staff at VFS," says Larry Bafia, Head of Animation & Visual Effects at VFS. "To rank so high among schools with much longer programs speaks to the hard work and attention to detail. Congratulations to everyone involved."
The 3D World ranking comes as Vancouver Film School's reputation in other media is hitting an all-time high. VFS has come to exemplify online thought leadership among schools, and its student films have gained enormous popularity on internet video sites. VFS leads all schools on YouTube, with 12,000 subscribers to its channel and over 7.5 million views for its videos, and in September, it became the first school to partner with cutting-edge internet video-on-demand service Joost.
