Eastern DataComm Introduces “CLASS” Comprehensive Lockdown Alert and Safety Solution
Hackensack, NJ, March 17, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Eastern DataComm recently unveiled a comprehensive solution that fully automates the notification procedures a school district needs in the event of a lockdown event – whether just a drill or the real thing.
“As we continue to collaborate with schools throughout New Jersey and New York, and offer best practice solutions to their everyday problems, our conversations inevitably turn to lockdowns and how quickly and effectively they are able to alert everyone on school property. It’s a real problem for most schools,” says Al Harnisch, President Eastern DataComm. “Schools have struggled to find a reliable and comprehensive system that will work regardless of the severity of the situation. It needs to be immediate, automatic, and reliable, and it needs to cover every area of their school grounds – inside and out. CLASS is our solution.”
The CLASS automatic alert solution is a flexible system that ties into several different technologies. It can grow and expand to work with existing infrastructure, and meet the challenging demands of today’s school budgets. Their recommended solution harnesses the power of a ShoreTel telephone within each classroom, utilizing the special capabilities for handling emergency situations, the building-wide paging system, special “screen pops” on computer screens, and a wireless notification system with strobe lights, LED signs, speakers, and prerecorded messages. It also includes options for providing a signal to perimeter control systems for doors and other building access points, as well as the ability for authorities to page into the school using a cell phone.
The lockdown can be initiated by the school staff or by a teacher using the ShoreTel classroom phone, pushing a button on a wireless pendant, pressing certain “panic” or “lockdown” buttons located in strategic places (principal’s office, under desks, etc.), or optionally via an app on a smartphone. The system is designed to cover all areas of the school. Internally in classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, stairways, and rooms such as the band room, cafeteria, auditorium and more. Externally, the system covers outside entrance areas, sports fields, parking lots, and other outdoor locations. With the wireless system, locations can be remote and still receive the applicable alerts and strobe lighting. The system will also allow initiation of a “Shelter in Place” and “Building Evacuation” alert for when those procedures need to be put in place.
“The NJ State Police recently visited our office to see the solution in action and were very impressed,” says Harnisch. “Most schools are not well prepared to announce a lockdown throughout their property and buildings. We are very excited to be able to offer this solution to school districts and to automate their procedures should the unthinkable happen. Studies have shown the first 20 seconds make all the difference.”
School districts and libraries interested in the system can visit the CLASS page on the Eastern DataComm website. In addition, Eastern DataComm is hosting three seminars in April to educate school administrators, superintendents and facility personnel on improving overall communications within their district, and ways to better protect students and teachers. The event will cover the many areas of student safety concern within school districts and showcase the technologies that can solve these challenges, including CLASS.
The seminars will be held at three different locations in New Jersey. Seminars will be held from 10am – 1:00pm on Tuesday, April 14th in Rutherford, NJ; Thursday, April 16th in Bridgewater, NJ and Thursday, April 23rd in Freehold, NJ. Lunch will be served at the events.
There is no cost to attend, but registration is required. Those wishing to attend can view the complete seminar details and register on the Eastern DataComm website.
