WNSC and Derwen College Make Maths Visible
Oswestry, United Kingdom, March 19, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Walford and North Shropshire College (WNSC) has recently been involved in National Maths Week activities in partnership with the Derwen College. Both colleges entered a national competition to creatively display the results of a survey of peoples’ favourite pizza toppings. At WNSC, a group of students made a short film, showing the results in a human bar chart and a human pie chart. It was filmed, edited and set to music with the assistance of Interactive Media students.
The Maths A Level students then took the film to show to maths students at Derwen College, before participating in a truly delicious project as the Derwen College students created their entry to the competition. The students made a pizza in each of the flavours surveyed, then used a portion of each to make a pizza pie chart. WNSC student, Hazel Melling, commented, "It was a lovely day, I’ve met some great people and maths lessons have never been so tasty."
