Dashboard Presents Shifting Scapes on Duluth’s Main Street
Atlanta-Based Arts organization to present artwork and performance at the iconic Stained Glass Studio on Main Street.
Duluth, GA, March 20, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Atlanta-based Dashboard will take over 3111 Main Street in Duluth, GA’s historic downtown. The City of Duluth, with support from the Duluth Fine Arts League, has commissioned Dashboard (coop), an accomplished art and event agency, to produce an immersive art experience for the city’s citizens and visitors. Formerly the Hardeman Glass Studio, the group will host an exhibition and assortment of creative programming, March 28 - May 10, 2015 in this iconic Main Street building, which currently sits vacant.
Under the innovative leadership of Mayor Nancy Harris, Duluth has made significant strides in the creative development of its downtown area. With the current and upcoming opening of various trendy restaurants and retail shops, and the new sidewalk and streetscape improvements, the city, now, more than ever, is ripe for creative infusion.
“There is an interesting partnership going on in Duluth and it is the first of its kind outside the perimeter of Atlanta. The City of Duluth, The Duluth Fine Arts League, Duluth Matters, Dashboard CoOp and a private investor are working together to create a unique space. We are excited that we are demonstrating in Duluth how to use art as an economic tool that turns an abandoned space into a potential real estate hot spot!” says Mayor Harris of the project.
Dashboard has been praised for its unique, largescale group exhibitions and received accolades for their urbanization and creative revitalization work by the likes of Huffington Post , Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, NYC Business Insider and Marie Clair e . In 2013, HGTV interviewed the directors on a project that made some notable impact on a now bustling nightlife district in Atlanta’s Downtown.
Grand Opening:
On March 28, at 7pm, Dashboard will present artwork by Kevin Byrd, Elizabeth Riley, Heather Greenway and Fly on a Wall. The exhibition, Shifting Scapes will offer large scale abstract painting, immersive fluorescent light installations, digital sculpture, dance and more.
“We’ve selected art pieces that depict shifting, abstract landscapes. Visitors will be invited to explore the art and reimagine what’s possible in a vacant, yet iconic, property,” Beth Malone, Executive Director at Dashboard said. “Duluth’s leaders are moving their city forward by welcoming an innovative spin on a very rich past. It’s an exciting project and a great place to be!”
This exhibition is free to the public and will run through May 10, 2015. Hours of operation: March 28, 7pm - 10pm. Beverages provided. Pure Taqueria will be celebrating this creative partnership with a public after party (across the street) beginning at 10pm.
