Jishan Liang Takes Championship Title in Impressive Style at 2015 Butterfly Cary Cup

Wilson, NC, March 25, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Surprise challenger Jishan Liang, number five seed, from New York Indoor Sports Club upsets top seed Kai Zhang from Westchester Table Tennis Club to take the Cary Cup championship title. Jishan, a lefty with tough serves and a powerful forehand, climbed his way to the top in impressive fashion after finishing 3rd in his Division A round robin group.

In the round of 16, Jishan faced second seed GaoXiang Zhao who had finished first in his group (posting 1 loss to Danny Seemiller) the day before in a high level battle of the loopers. Jishan served and attacked his way to a strong lead to win the match 3-0 to knock out the number two seed. In the next round, he faced Jeffrey Zeng, 2011 Cary Cup Champion and player-coach from MDTTC. Jeffrey plays a very consistent game with long rallies, but Jishan was ready to rise to the challenge. He made sure to prepare for long points and took the match easily 3-0. In the semi-final, Jishan continued his dominant play by taking out Bowen Chen from Maryland Table Tennis Center. Although Jishan lost to Bowen in the group stage yesterday, he contemplated the match overnight and was able to adjust his strategy in today’s match-up. During the match, Jishan served and attacked with speed, overcoming Bowen and winning the match 3-0.

Spectators highly anticipated an exciting final as Jishan would face number one seed Kai Zhang. Kai had seemed cool and composed throughout the tournament, posting no losses and losing only 2 games during the knockout rounds. However, Jishan proved to be unstoppable in his serve and attack play and surprised the crowd by pushing Kai to the limit in both tactical strategies and long rallies. Kai didn’t have an answer for Jishan’s assaulting attacks. Jishan easily took the match 8, 9, 4. A smiling Jishan became the 15th Cary Cup champion, succeeding in a deep field of the highest level competitors from across the east coast.
