MYMobile Security Found That 9 Out of 10 in the Mobile Industry Feared Identity Theft During MWC15
During MWC15 MYMobile Security, a company providing a range of mobile Security services, gave away free WiFi security to all MWC15 visitors and conducted a survey on WiFi security issues that generated interesting results on WiFi hotspot issues.
London, United Kingdom, April 03, 2015 --(PR.com)-- The CEO of MYMobile Security, Kevin Freij, explains why they gave away their product for free: “WiFi hotspots are unsecure by definition. Since the industry leaders, executives and employees were gathering in the same place we knew that it would be the perfect target for hackers aiming to steal corporate or private information and identities.”
Identity theft was an evident fear
as 9 out of 10 who participated in the survey said that they were afraid of getting their identity stolen when using a public hotspot during MWC15.
Mr Freij was content with the survey; “We think the survey showed a result that is alarming but at the same time good since it indicates that people in the mobile industry knows what risks exists with using public WiFi without a VPN or other encryption, which is important for both their own and their company’s security.”
Using VPN is the perfect solution
In order to be invisible to all kind of hackers or attacks it is vital to use VPN (Virtual Private Network), that is why MYMobile Security gave away their VPN product "MYPrivate WiFi" for free during the Congress.
“We wanted to inform the unaware, prevent eavesdropping and make sure all visitors could enjoy the WiFi hotspots without any concerns,” says Mr Freij.
Results revealed mixed level of knowledge about VPN
Kevin Freij concludes with commenting the results from the second question; “What surprised us was that a third of the respondents believed that using a VPN would slow down the speed of their Internet connection. There is actually no notable difference or reduction in the network speed from a user˙s experience when running a VPN. Let me put it like this: if it would be, would you risk your private photos, bank details or corporate information over a small unnoticable reduction in network speed?”
Results from survey conducted by MYMobile Security February/March 2015:
Are you afraid that your Identity will be stolen when using a public HotSpot during MWC2015?
Yes – 88,52%
No – 11,48%
Do you think your internet connection will be slower if using encryption over a Wi-Fi HotSpot?
Yes – 33,61%
No – 66,39%
Total number of participants: 318
