Swan Center Outreach of Colorado is Accredited by Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries

Silverthorne, CO, April 16, 2015 --(PR.com)-- The Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS), the only globally recognized organization providing standards for identifying legitimate animal sanctuaries, awarded Accredited status to Swan Center Outreach as of April 6, 2015.

Swan Center Outreach (SCO) decided to work for full Accreditation status instead of first becoming Verified. With dedication and commitment to demonstrating high levels of professionalism, Swan Center Outreach has achieved that goal.

Accreditation signifies that Swan Center Outreach meets GFAS’ rigorous and peer-reviewed equine care standards which are confirmed by a site visit and has also demonstrated adherence to standards addressing the sustainability of the organization, ethical principles, finances, staffing, education outreach, security and safety and other operational aspects.

“Swan Center Outreach is an exceptional organization that provides leadership and self-awareness programs for youth by encouraging partnerships with rescued horses and horses with special needs. These human-horse bonds empower both horse and youth with rewarding and life affirming experiences,” said Daryl Tropea, GFAS Senior Deputy Director. “Swan Center Outreach has worked very hard on strategic planning, governance policies and financial sustainability to become GFAS Accredited and it is well deserved.”

“Being recognized by GFAS as an accredited sanctuary gives credibility to the dedication and hard work of the staff and volunteers of Swan Center Outreach,” said John Longhill, Executive Director of Swan Center Outreach. “This amazing group of people realizes the incredible value that animals, especially horses, have in our lives as teachers, healers and friends and the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuary’s accreditation is recognition of the effort necessary to properly recognize the importance and value of these animals in our lives.”

The GFAS Equine Accreditation Program is made possible by a generous grant from The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®.

About Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries
Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the sole purpose of strengthening and supporting the work of animal sanctuaries, rescues, and rehabilitation centers worldwide. The goal of GFAS in working with and assisting these animal care facilities is to ensure they are supported, honored, recognized and rewarded for meeting important criteria in providing care to the animals in residence. GFAS was founded in 2007 by animal protection leaders from a number of different organizations in response to virtually unchecked and often hidden exploitation of animals for human entertainment and financial profit. The GFAS Board of Directors guides the organization’s work in a collaborative manner. While the board includes those in top leadership at Born Free USA, The Humane Society of the United States, International Fund for Animal Welfare, the ASPCA, and American Anti-Vivisection Society, all board members serve as individuals dedicated to animal sanctuaries. www.sanctuaryfederation.org.

About Swan Center Outreach
The horses of Swan Center Outreach help children learn the importance of responsibility while learning about the true cause of life's problems. A child's unhappiness can surely be caused by circumstances, but when a child reacts negatively to difficult circumstances and looks for answers outside of themselves through blame and reaction, they give up their power to change those circumstances.

Our horses teach children that changing circumstances begins with changing themselves. A child learns that their behavior determines their success, when working with horses. They also realize that their thoughts dictate their behavior and are the basis for everything they experience in life. When they realize how much control they really have over their life, they become empowered, because they are the only ones truly in control of what they experience.

After interacting with our horses the children are different, because they have been given the gift of knowledge, which becomes wisdom in knowing that they and only they are the masters of their life. It is an amazing thing to watch and it is an incredible gift to these children.

Swan Center Outreach and their dedicated volunteers provide a sanctuary for these incredible animals through daily care and handling and interacting with them in a way that provides a purposeful and happy life for them. For more information, visit www.swancenter.org or call 970-468-0924.
