Eat Excellent Announces Pure Dawn Farm as Its First Supplier
Oberlin, OH, April 25, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Eat Excellent, a distributor of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) shares with the best quality produce, is pleased to announce that it has qualified its first supplier, Pure Dawn Farm in Orwell, Ohio, and is now selling verified quality CSA shares. Shares may be purchased through the Eat Excellent website found in the contact information, calling the CSA manager at 440-935-1901, or using the contact dorm on the website.
Eat Excellent is a new concept in Community Supported Agriculture, that of verifiable quality. Fresh, local, organic – these are words that typically connote food quality, but unfortunately, do not correlate with nutrient rich food, and are often much lower in nutrient content than can be found in the best crops. This difference can be a factor of five or more, and is especially significant due to today's increased awareness of the connection between nutrition and health.
Eat Excellent qualifies farms as capable of producing excellent produce, based on capable processes and analysis, and requires that no pesticides and fungicides of any kind are ever applied, even organic ones. Plants and soils must be healthy enough to resist all pests and diseases without biocides. Shares are filled based on availability and quality of sampled and tested produce at harvest, targeted at good to excellent quality. We are pleased to be working with Pure Dawn Farm to make the best produce available to the Greater Cleveland area.
Pure Dawn supplies a wide variety of produce: Swiss chard, romaine, spinach, salad greens, kale, collard, radish, onions, beets, carrots, broccoli, rapini, cauliflower, cabbage, green beans, zucchini, tomatoes, peppers, celery, celeriac, cucumbers, cantaloupe, acorn and butternut squash, sweet potato, Brussels sprouts, basil, parsley, dill, cilantro, garlic, with more variety planned for next season. Eat Excellent is currently looking for qualified fruit growers to supplement Pure Dawn's vegetables.
Pure Dawn Farm is located on 160 acres near Orwell, Ohio in western Ashtabula County. “When it comes to food, quality is everything. It isn’t what crops you grow, it’s how you grow them," according to John Kempf who runs Pure Dawn, and is one of the nations foremost agronomists. “We are seeking to balance plant health to have higher levels of quality, health, and immunity. The goal is to produce the healthiest plants with the greatest immunity without pesticides of any kind.” Kempf is founder and CEO of Advancing Eco-Agriculture in nearby Middlefield, Ohio, providing consultation and innovative mineral and biological nutrients for soil treatment, fertigation, and foliar applications.
Crop health will be monitored using plant sap analysis, a new technology being employed by Crop Health Labs in Bellville, Ohio. Plant sap testing can detect nutrient imbalances in plants before their visible effects can be detected, allowing the farm to make corrections before the crop is infested or damaged.
Currently, share pick-ups are planned for Wednesdays throughout the greater Cleveland area, but days can be added if there is sufficient demand. Shares are priced for the season at $685 for a full share for 3-4 people, and $350 for a half share for 1-2 people. The season starts mid-June and runs for 18 weeks.
