Oak Hill, WV, April 29, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Celebrate Memorial Day weekend by getting outside and on the water – whitewater that is! The New River Gorge in West Virginia is home to a number of outdoor adventures, many of which are at their peak in the early summer months. Guests have the option to raft any day from Saturday to Monday over the weekend, and then spend the rest of the weekend exploring all the gorge has to offer. Onsite lodging is available and ranges from rustic to luxurious – and everything in between! When visitors aren’t on the water or in the mountains, local towns offer a number of charming small businesses and a rich cultural history.
“The New River Gorge is beautiful any time of year, but May is when it really hits its peak.” Explains River Expeditions owner, Rick Johnson. “We know this package is a great opportunity for family and friends to experience the beauty and the fun of the gorge over the long weekend.”
History at the New River Gorge is expansive, as are the options for rafters – with one of the most popular routes being the tranquil and steady Upper New River, which is a great option for the new rafter. For the experienced or adventure seeking rafter, there is the Lower New River Gorge, otherwise known as “The Grand Canyon of the East” – which features dips and drops that are sure to excite even the most veteran rafter.
Whitewater rafting consists of navigating a stretch of river on an inflatable raft. Trips generally span 5-7 hours, including a break for lunch. The ability to swim is helpful, but it is not necessary. Guests are provided with necessary safety equipment, including a Coast Guard approved Type V Life Jacket, Paddle and Helmet.
