A four album release, and world renown Mutabaruka, Dalton "Sasquash" Burke, the first Jamaican reggae rapper to win the famous Apollo contest in NYC, will be at this year's Mother’s Day Banquet May 9th, 2015, at the Kiwanis Club of Lauderdale Lakes (3730 West Oakland Park Blvd., Lauderdale Lakes, FL 33311). Gates open at 5:00 pm.
Headliner Mutabaruka, a more than 30 year veteran dub poet, is an author, historian, radio host, and star of the movie Sankofa. “Without any effort, Muta is as entertaining as he his inspirational,” said Sasquash. “When Muta is on stage he is a comic, poet, a teacher and the audience love him.”
The four albums are: 1. Big Foot Man, from Sasquash Apollo reggae winner; 2. Money Few, Marcia Jackson multi-talented storyteller, actor, poet, comedian and verbal artist; 3. Verbal Thought, D Merge visionary/protagonist; and 4. Mutabaruka & More compilation arts in all forms.
Mutabaruka & More compilation includes Muta, Vinegar, Memory, Sunshine, Amisial the South Florida Poetry Fiesta winner year 2004, Mr. Simms and others.
This Mother’s Day Banquet also includes a live performance with the Road Block Band, reggae rapper Vinegar and more, MC by Barrington, music by Bill Vybz & Black 360.
Verbal Art Production is a sister company for the non-profit company South Florida Poetry Fiesta, as financial support fell short from potential supporter, hence VAP was formed to generate funds from the performers' intellectual property while they expand their repertoire. Proceeds from this event will be used to re-launch said non-profit to fulfill many charitable missions.
