Dubai, United Arab Emirates, May 09, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) unveiled ‘Sharjah VR’, a smartphone virtual reality app featuring 360-degree tour of seven famous locations in the emirate. The app was showcased at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2015, which is being held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The mobile virtual reality project is part of Sharjah’s government’s Sharjah Tourism Vision 2021, which is being aimed at welcoming up to 10 million tourists in the emirate by 2021. The app has been developed in collaboration with Merlin Digital, which has been ranked “Dubai’s Most Innovative” company by the emirate’s government. The company has worked on several such high-profile 360-degree projects, one of the recent ones being the ‘UAE VR’ app.
Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Director-General of SCTDA, has said that the authority is keen to upgrade and develop all of its services in keeping with the directives of the Sharjah Government and UAE Government on the optimum utilization of smart e-governance services and information in the emirate.
Virtual Reality (VR) applications immerse the user in a computer-generated environment that simulates reality through the use of interactive devices such as goggles or headsets. Virtual Reality, which can be referred to as immersive multimedia or computer-simulated life, lets users experience and interact with any replicated environment without actually being there.
The ‘Sharjah VR’ app presents the rich cultural heritage of the emirate, which was crowned the Cultural Capital of the Arab World in 1998, the Islamic Culture Capital for 2014, and the Arab Tourism Capital for 2015. The app features a guided tour with audio commentary in both English and Arabic and allows users to virtually navigate through seven famous tourist attractions in Sharjah (Maritime Museum, Museum of Islamic Civilization, Arabia’s Wildlife Centre, Al Majaz Waterfront, Al Qasba, Central Souk, and Souk Al Arsah).
