Kids Become Published Authors at This Book Publishing Camp for Kids
Do you have a kid who loves to draw? Do you have a kid who is always writing? Then, Book Publishing Camp for Kids may be for them. Kids in grades 4-8, for six-weeks, get the opportunity to learn about book publishing and become published authors and illustrators. Things get creative when kids play staff members, making key decisions just like regular staff. Camp includes field trips and author visits.

Here’s a solution: Book Publishing Camp for Kids. ZLS Author Institute, a division of ZLS Publishing will kick off Book Publishing Camp for Kids, its summer art and writing camp, in June.
The only book publishing camp dedicated to kids, ZLS Author Institute offers kids in grades 4-8 a special opportunity to work with professional writers and artists, as well as aspiring ones, to craft their own stories and art. At the end of the six week camp, campers will have a published book in hand and will become published authors and illustrators. During camp, kids will be led through fun activities designed to encourage them to develop their unique voices while teaching them about book publishing, illustration, writing and editing. Visits by published, professional writers as well as visits via field trips will enrich campers’ experience. The fee-based camp runs from June 22-July 31.
“Our camp is about making kids' dreams come true," says Lishone Genovese, Camp Director of the Author Institute. “We are all about making dreams come true. So if your kid wants to be a writer, or an artist, our camp teaches kids that their talent is important and so is their dream. To many kids turn into adults who never had a dream come true. It’s perfect for kids who love writing and drawing.”
Camp takes place at the ZLS Author Institute, an office in the Bixby Knolls section of Long Beach, CA.
“From the very beginning I felt comfortable and at home, like it was where I was supposed to be,” said a participant from their New York camp. “Camp inspired me and I left loving drawing more.”
This is the first time it will be run in Long Beach, California, as it has been run several years in New York. Camp runs full-time Monday – Thursday from 9-5 pm and Friday from 9-2pm, with extended day care available. Each student will become a published writer and illustrator by contributing to a book. Students will also have an opportunity to perform their work for family and friends during the end of camp book signing.
