Morton Grove Historical Museum Expands Weekday Hours and Opens on Saturdays - Offers Chance for VIP Seating to Watch July 4th Fireworks

Morton Grove, IL, May 19, 2015 --(PR.com)-- In an effort to make the museum which is comprised of the Haupt-Yehl House Museum and the John & Mary Helen Slater Educational Center both more accessible to those interested in local history, the Morton Grove Historical Society has expanded the hours which the museum will be open.

Starting immediately, the Museum will be open to the public on weekdays (except major holidays) from 11 am to 3 pm for those interested in visiting the c.1888 Haupt-Yehl House or viewing current exhibits in the John & Mary Helen Educational Center (built in 1986 to compliment the original house and named for long-time village community volunteers John & Mary Helen Slater).

The current exhibit will be running through summer and into early fall and is titled "The Recreation and Leisure History of Morton Grove," which features many treasures from the collections of the Morton Grove Historical Museum about how those enjoyed their leisure time in the past.

The sage green, wood sided structures known as The Haupt-Yehl House and the John & Mary Helen Slater Educational Center are located in Harrer Park (6148-6240 Dempster Street) in Morton Grove in between the Park District's Pool and the Village's Civic Center.

Starting on Saturday, June 6 and running each Saturday through October 17, 2015 so as to coincide the the Morton Grove Farmers' Market schedule, the Museum will be open from 9 am to 12 noon (except July 4th weekend) so those attending the market can experience the collections and exhibits. Starting October 24, 2015, schedule will revert to being open on Sunday afternoons from 2-4 pm until the market opens in the spring of 2016.

For the first time this year, the Society will be selling raffle tickets where one winner will be able to bring up to eight people to watch the July 4th fireworks in Harrer Park from the VIP enclosed back yard of the museum which overlooks the park that attracts tens of thousands of visitors to watch the pyrotechnic display. Tickets are $10 each or 3 for $25 with proceeds going to benefit the Historical Society. Only 200 tickets will be sold. The drawing for the winner will take place on the front porch of the museum on June 27 at noon.
