Attention Occupational & Physical Therapists: 6 Steps to Better Balance is Coming to Oregon
On June 28, the Sherwood Regional YMCA, Sherwood will host a regional workshop to teach occupational and physical therapists a unique, simple and fun program to help older adults avoid falls. Offered to OTs and PTs for Continuing Education Units.
Franklin, MI, May 26, 2015 --(PR.com)-- The popular, nationally recognized “6 Steps to Better Balance Program” is coming to Oregon and Southern Washington. Sharon Claye, President and Owner of Fall Prevention Training Services, LLC is bringing this exciting new, nationally endorsed exercise program to the Sherwood Regional YMCA in Sherwood on Sunday, June 28, see http://fallpreventiontrainer.com/register-now/.
Claye, a certified Master Trainer in this system, will be teaching a workshop for group fitness instructors, personal trainers, occupational therapist, physical therapists, activity directors, and anyone interested in helping older adults to avoid falling and improve their confidence and independence. “Every 14 seconds, an older adult is treated in the emergency room for a fall,” says Claye. “These accidents can be dramatically reduced through learning this set of easy, yet effective, exercises. Older adults need no longer live in fear of falling.”
Developed by Dr. Betty Perkins-Carpenter, founder and President of Senior Fitness Inc., 6 Steps to Better Balance is an evidenced-based program that utilizes repetitive practice of a series of movements and simple exercises, such as the “Chorus Line” and “Dancing with a Pillow,” to help older adults gain better balance. It is designed to reduce the probability of falls, the fear of falling and fall-related injuries. It also increases body flexibility, leg strength and overall endurance.
“I look forward to teaching the 6 Steps to Better Balance Program because it offers enjoyable activities rather than ‘have-to’ exercises which will make it fun for all older Oregonians,” said Claye. “We are also excited to offer this program to Occupational Therapists and Physical Therapists for their Continuing Education Units (CEUs).”
Completion of the eight-hour training also qualifies the student for Continuing Education Credits (CECs) from several major personal trainer certifications.
