Family Owned Local Bakery Works with Troubled Youth

Imagicakes Cake Designers, a minority owned and operated custom cake bakery is ramping up to begin its comprehensive programs to serve the at-risk youth of Philadelphia.

Philadelphia, PA, June 18, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Damon Nasir, owner of Imagicakes Cakes Designers Bakery and his team have big plans for the youth of Philadelphia. As a happily married father of four Mr. Nasir uses his own troubled past and life experiences to impart life skills through the culinary arts. Mr. Nasir and Imagicakes have partnered with such organizations as Disney, The Ronald McDonald House, Wachovia Center and well as over 50 neighborhood elementary and middle schools to bring smiles of accomplishment to the the faces of hundreds of Philadelphia's at-risk youth. He does this through Imagicakes' custom designed seminars such as The Young Chefs, Divas and Healthy Choices classes. These classes concentrate on such basics as conflict resolution, team, building, confidence building and healthier food choices.

Tired of viewing the headlines of idle teens roaming the streets creating mischief and being victims of mischief Mr. Nasir is looking to take it to the next level. Currently they are limited in how often and how comprehensive their program can be due to a lack of classroom space and a retail outlet to showcase prepared goods. Imagicakes is moving forward with plans to secure a retail space with classroom and training facilities. "Having our own classroom means we can offer these programs regularly, and give the students a positive outlet in addition to gaining valuable insight and experience in the food service industry." "They (the students) will have a chance to see the retail baking industry from the inside and receive introductory exposure to a legitimate marketable skill," said team member Elizabeth. "They will be involved in the entire process including, provisioning, food preparation, marketing, and retail sales. Where else can that happen?, she continued. "Real experience for the real world."

When asked about some of the risks and challenges Mr. Nasir responded, "Let's be honest, the first hurdle is always money! We have been seeking funding from every possible source loans, grants, contests you name we are on it. We are even seeking donations on Kickstarter @ https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/559408959/help-us-open-our-training-facility-and-retail-stor.

"After that the next few challenges we expect are staffing and overhead. Finding quality staff that are not only proficient at their craft but willing and able to work in a teaching environment is gonna be tricky. We will address this by seeking out current trainers and instructors who are comfortable imparting their skills. Imagicakes has operated as in internet business and has held classes and programs at our partner locations in the past. The added expense of commercial rent will be a challenge that we expect to overcome with increased revenues."
