Lenovo Employees Assembled Bicycles for Children of Military Families
Global Technology Company Hosted Volunteer Day for USO’s Operation: That’s My Ride on June 18
Research Triangle Park, NC, June 20, 2015 --(PR.com)-- More than 225 Lenovo employees joined in a day of volunteerism at the Lenovo Enterprise Business Group on Thursday, June 18 to help build more than 220 bicycles and tricycles for children of military families serving on bases and ships in North Carolina. This event was held in support of United Service Organization’s (USO) Operation: That’s My Ride.
In small teams, Lenovo volunteers worked in morning, midday and afternoon shifts at eight different stations to complete a bike from assembly through quality inspection. Upon completion, 13 children from military families were surprised with bikes and Lenovo technology during the closing event. The rest of the bikes will be awarded at USO events throughout the summer and around the holidays. The closing ceremony featured a performance by the USO Show Troupe, featuring renowned performers with extensive Broadway, Off-Broadway, film and TV credits. The Show Troupe’s performances are produced in collaboration with Grammy, Emmy and Tony Award-winning writers, arrangers and choreographers. In addition, the NC Helicopter Pilots Association and the US Veteran Corps brought in several military vehicles to be on display for the event. USO’s Operation: That’s My Ride has been building bicycles and tricycles for children of military families since 2007. Since then, more than 20,000 bicycles and tricycles have been built.
U.S. military and veteran support is a critical component of Lenovo’s community outreach platform. Lenovo seeks opportunities to give back through partnerships with USO and nonprofit organizations that help get technology into the homes of active military and veterans. Lenovo is a proud technology partner at USO North Carolina, equipping all centers with Lenovo technology to help soldiers and veterans stay in touch with family members as well as process in and out. USO North Carolina uses this technology to collaborate with nonprofit partners like Hire Heroes to aid in military career-transition services, which rely heavily on access to technology. In addition to supporting their family reading initiatives, homecomings and holiday celebrations, Lenovo has created Technology Centers for the USO at RDU, Fort Bragg and throughout North Carolina, as well as in Washington, DC. Lenovo is committed to helping enable greater opportunities for veterans in the community.
