Lutheran Services in America Elects New Board Members & Officers
Leading Midwestern Nonprofits Join the Board of One of Country’s Largest Human Services Networks.
Washington, DC, July 01, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Lutheran Services in America, Inc. (LSA) has elected to its Board of Directors Jodi Harpstead, president and CEO of Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota, and Christie Hinrichs, president and CEO of Nebraska-based organization Tabitha. Dr. Bruce Kintz, president and CEO of Concordia Publishing House, has been appointed to the Board as a Class B Board Director.
As Board Directors, they will play active roles in guiding one of the nation’s largest health and human services networks, representing 300 Lutheran social ministry organizations across the U.S. and parts of the Caribbean. The LSA network is listed as number 20 on the Philanthropy 400’s list of the nation’s largest charitable organizations.
Board elections took place during LSA’s most recent Annual Meeting of the membership held in San Antonio this past April during the network’s 2015 Annual Conference. Their terms as Class A and B Board Directors begin July 1, 2015 and run through June 30, 2018.
During the Annual Conference, members approved Junia John-Straker, chief executive officer of Lutheran Social Services of the Virgin Islands, Inc., to serve another term on the LSA Board of Directors.
The Board also elected new officers, effective July 1:
- Betty Oldenkamp, president and CEO of Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota, was elected Chairperson of the Board.
- David Fenoglietto, President and CEO of Lutheran SeniorLife, will serve as Vice Chair of the Board. Brian Hofland, President, Research to Prevent Blindness, Inc., was elected Treasurer.
- Reverend Patricia Davenport, Director for Evangelical Mission, Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod of The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America was reelected as Board Secretary.
About Jodi Harpstead
Jodi Harpstead has served as President and CEO of Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota (LSS) since 2011. LSS offers a broad array of community services touching one in every 65 Minnesotans in all 87 counties of the state - including services for people with disabilities, older adults, children, youth, and families. Before taking on the role of CEO, Harpstead served as Chief Advancement Officer and then Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of LSS of MN.
Prior to joining LSS of MN, she spent 23 years with Medtronic, Inc. where she held several key positions, including President of Global Marketing and U.S. Sales in Cardiac Rhythm Management and Vice President and General Manager of Cardiac Surgery Technologies. A native of the Chicago area, Harpstead received an MBA and BA in Business Administration from Michigan State University before settling in Minnesota.
About Christie Hinrichs
Since 2010 Christie Hinrichs has served as President and CEO of Tabitha, a nonprofit, mission-centered provider of health care services for older adults, headquartered in Lincoln and serving 28 southeast Nebraska counties. She began her career in compassion in 1993 as a Tabitha Hospice social worker before advancing to leadership roles within Tabitha Hospice and the organization’s in-home support program.
Hinrichs then served as the Nebraska Heart Hospital’s Chief Operating Officer and as a branch manager with Coram Healthcare. She returned to Tabitha in 2006 as Vice President of Clinical Services. She served on Tabitha’s corporate Board of Directors from November 2004 through May 2006.
About Bruce Kintz:
Dr. Bruce G. Kintz was called by his strong connection to his faith to serve at Concordia Publishing House (CPH), the publisher of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. He joined CPH in 1998 as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, and in 2006 he was named President and CEO. Under his leadership, CPH has won the Missouri Quality Award in 2009 and the National Malcolm Baldrige Quality Award in 2011.
Dr. Kintz’s career began at McDonnell Douglas, now Boeing Company, where he held senior management roles in the areas of legal, auditing, quality systems, and operations. He serves on the board of the Excellence in Missouri Foundation, and previously served for two years as the president of the Protestant Church-owned Publishers Association. He has taught as an Adjunct Professor in the MBA program for Concordia University Wisconsin-St. Louis Center.
