New Survey Finds Higher-Ed Faculty Acceptance of Technology-Enhanced Instruction to be on the Rise But with Challenges Still to be Met

Computers in the classroom are commonplace and have proven successful when it comes to improving student learning. Link-Systems International, Inc. surveys higher-ed faculty to shed a light on the blended classroom movement and how it is received.

Tampa, FL, July 01, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Link-Systems International released today the results of a new survey whose responses from faculty members in more than 50 universities and colleges throughout the United States paint a mixed picture of the inroads that technology-enhanced instruction is making in colleges and universities throughout the U.S.

On the one hand, nearly 90% of survey respondents reported that the advances that have come about in technology-enhanced over the past two decades have helped them become “more effective” as instructors. And more than 75% of the respondents expressed a desire to increase their use of technology in the courses they now teach.

On the other hand, fewer than 33% of the respondents expressed satisfaction with the “quality and reliability of the online instructional software” currently available to them and their students. Fewer still felt that the technology currently available to them in their respective schools had made it “easier for them to identify early in the semester which students in their classes were falling behind.” And more than 50% of the respondents confirmed one of the most common findings in recently published educational technology research studies—namely, that most teachers have neither the knowledge nor the training they need to capitalize fully on the technology-based instructional resources that are now available to them.

“I wasn’t surprised that our survey brought to light this disparity,” says Vincent Forese, the president of Link-Systems International. “We’re very much aware that educators are more receptive today to the idea of technology-enhanced instruction than they were in the 1990s when we first introduced on-demand online tutoring. But we also recognize that it is our responsibility as a company to do everything we can possibly do in order to ensure that whatever product or service we’re offering can be efficiently and cost-effectively tailored to the specific problems the schools and organizations we work with are seeking to solve.”
