"Mission: One Child’s Cure" Launches Today in Denver
10-Year Old Cancer Patient Launches Youth Cancer-Awareness and Cure Research Initiative
Denver, CO, December 02, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Richard Friesenhahn is only 10 years old, but he’s not taking cancer lightly. In addition to undergoing intensive chemotherapy treatments, Richard and his family are launching “Mission: One Child’s Cure,” a youth cancer-awareness and cure research campaign today at Sonoma Resort at Saddle Rock Apartment Homes.
With friends and family on hand, Sonoma Resort at Saddle Rock will be presenting the Friesenhahn family with a key to their new apartment home to help celebrate the launch of “Mission: One Child’s Cure.”
Richard has been diagnosed with a form of cancer called IMT, or Inflammatory Myofibroblastic Tumor. According to Richard’s doctor, Lisa Reaves, MD, “Richard’s tumor is very rare, so much so that there are no published estimates of its frequency in children. Based on incidence data for the broader category of soft tissue sarcomas, we can guess that IMT is diagnosed in less than 1 in a million boys of Richard’s age each year.”
When Richard was diagnosed, news of his illness traveled through his classmates at Liberty Middle School. PTO Board Member Linda Shaw was given permission by Richard’s mother, Sandra Friesenhahn, to advise other parents and community members, as well as ask for support for the Friesenhahn family. Offers of support and wishes poured in, and the staff at Sonoma Resort at Saddle Rock became aware of the need for support. In an effort to help the family keep up with the financial and emotional responsibilities of caring for Richard, they were able to offer an apartment home, rent-free for a year.
“We are proud to support Richard and the Friesenhahn family in launching the Mission: One Child’s Cure campaign,” says Angie Heimbigner, Sonoma Resort at Saddle Rock Regional Manager. “Our community strives to be active in the community, in our resident’s lives and well-being. It is truly an honor to support Richard in his quest for health, and the Friesenhahn family in their quest to promote youth cancer awareness and cure research.”
