World Tavern Poker Open in Las Vegas a Huge Success
Durham, NC, December 03, 2007 --(PR.com)-- More than 600 World Tavern Poker Players from 25 different states converged on Binion’s Gambling Hall in Las Vegas to take part in the 5th World Tavern Poker Open. Joined by WSOP poker champion Greg Raymer, this event was the largest WTP Open ever.
World Tavern Poker is the country’s largest bar poker league and twice each year the company hosts The World Tavern Poker Open which is 5 days of great poker, great parties and great people.
“We take poker to a whole new level at these events”, said Mike Matsinger, founder of World Tavern Poker. “Poker tournaments themselves aren’t always that exciting, but we add a whole new element with music, unique tournament formats and incredible parties”.
So what went on at this event?
To start were 3 championship events including the league’s Spring and Summer National Championships and the National Tournament of Champions where players were competing for seats in the World Series of Poker.
Then came other cash poker tournaments including the Bodog Bounty Hunter Tournament where players received extra prizes for knocking out World Tavern Poker team members and the Pro Player Speed Poker Tournament where players have only 5 seconds to act. But probably the most exciting tournament of the weekend was the Tag Team Poker Championship.
“It was hilarious” said Mike Filipelli, professional comedian and long time World Tavern Poker Player. “My partner had just made a monster raise when we were switched. I sit down and look at his 8 3 off suit. He was in a stone cold buff and I had to finish it out. What a great time”.
But the most exciting elements of the week were the parties. “We know how to put on a great party” added Matsinger.
The first party was the Buccaneer Bash where everyone was dressed up as pirates and had the chance to compete in the Peg Leg Poker event. The second party was a Halloween theme with everyone in costume and the entire World Tavern Poker staff dressed as the characters from the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
“Our players take their poker very seriously, but they know how to have fun as well” said Matsinger. “If you love playing poker and love having a great time, then these events are for you”.
